Tips for Cleaning Your Clothing Iron

Iron is one of the most common home appliances and just like any other appliances the steam iron also needs to be cleaned. Unfortunately, very few people understand actually how the iron can be cleaned properly. Before you begin the cleaning process you must remember to wait until the iron been cool. Cleaning a hot steam iron can be so dangerous for you and ineffective too.

As using iron on clothes removes the creases and wrinkles, and give them a snazzy look! By taking care of the iron perfectly can glide effortlessly across your shirts, dresses, slacks and more. Keeping your iron clean is very important to keep your dresses and clothes clean.

Things makes your iron dirty:

  • Water left in the reservoir( What left unused)
  • Hot heat melting synthetic fabrics, such as polyester, nylon, acrylic and graphic details etc.
  • Build-up of spray starch etc.

Here are some tips to clean your steam iron properly with:

Baking Soda:

  • First make sure that iron is unplugged and metal plate is cold.
  • Take 2 teaspoon of baking soda and mix with water to make a paste.
  • Apply that soda paste to the areas of the iron plate.
  • Take a clean cloth and rub the plate until there is no dirt.
  • With a clean cloth wipe the plate.

Dryer Sheets:

  • Plug your iron and set the lowest heat setting
  • Rub gently the iron’s metal plate with a new dryer sheet until dirt is gone
  • Now turn on the iron up to the highest heat setting and iron any old towel for removing the residue what been left by the dryer sheets.

Vinegar and Salt:

  • Mix some white vinegar and 3-4 teaspoons of salt, then heat the mixture.
  • Heat until the salt is dissolved completely but avoid it to boil.
  • Leave the mixture to cool.
  • After cooling just dip a clean cloth in the mixture and clean the metal plate gently.
  • Now plug your iron in and iron an old towel to clean plate.

Newspaper:

  • Heat up your iron at the highest setting
  • Run iron across the newspaper until the residue not disappears.

Dish Detergent:

  • Just put a few drop on the liquid dish washing detergent into some water.
  • Take a soft towel, rag, or paper towel and dip in the mix solution
  • Now wipe away any kind of residue on your iron’s soleplate.

As any other home appliances we also need to be careful for the cleaning and safety of ironing appliances as well. Keeping clean and safe can increase the life of the appliance!
